Why Spain jet lag feels different
- North America → Spain (crossing the date line westward): your body clock thinks 3:00 PM in Madrid is the middle of the night, and you'll wake up wide awake at 4:00 AM JST for the first two mornings. Lean into it—visit Senso-ji, Meiji Shrine, or Fushimi Inari at 6:00 AM before crowds arrive.
- Europe → Spain (flying east 7–9 hours): advancing your clock eastward is harder on the body. Seek morning outdoor light after 9:00 AM JST and avoid bright sunlight before 7:00 AM on Day 1 so you don't shift the wrong direction.
- Hotel bath / onsen trick: a 15-minute warm soak at 9:30 PM raises core body temperature; the rapid cool-down afterward triggers natural sleepiness.
